    From the exciting yet ominous foreshadow of the first snowfall to the eventual apathy that often comes after months of sullen conditions, living in the winter forces us to make an existential choice; to accept forces beyond our control. Sans Solace is a collection of music and field recordings, using traditional and non-traditional instrumentation, exploring the physical, emotional, and psychological conditions evoked by the fickle and taxing New Brunswick winter months.

    The sounds of winter lives in our peripheral consciousness from day-to-day: ice cracking, wind snapping, salt spreading, snow shifting, shovels scrapping; snow being pushed and tolerated. Not only the external sounds surround us, though the repetitive drones, the hums, the cracks and splits, and the dead silences of being isolated are always present. “Sans Solace” aims to reflect the sensations experienced when faced with life in winter, and explores themes of enclosure and seclusion, comfort and restlessness, darkness, and acceptance.
