lyrics

I drove thru foot-high snowbanks to see you
You said you wanted to go to Vulcan
To see the visitor centre spaceship
And take yr mind off of Carrie Fisher’s death

We drove for the hour passing collapsing barns
Taking photos from the moving car that wouldn’t come thru

The spaceship was closed so we wandered the streets
Went to home hardware for a lightsaber or saver or whatever
Feeling blessed that every time I see u I’m less impressive

Still no motorcycle license
You said and rolled yr eyes
And told me to pose in front of the alley giant Shatner eyes
I obliged

I said
It’s always refreshing to see u
And asked when yr book came out
You said
dunno

We went to the bar for poutine with alien stencils outside
It was a lovely meal shared with yr groovy jokes and gravy smile
(even with the weirdly intrusive waiter

You told me aggressively to write more
That not everyone has inner worlds
I said capturing your casual poetic style comes off so inauthentic
So I try to ramble my way to describe this out of this world day
And took more Terrence Malick-y photos

Drove u home as the sun went down
Told you again
I miss you all the time
And to send more postcards addressed to Axelsong

Promised to watch one Star Trek episode after you fly home
And go back to the Vulcan spaceship
And I’ll send you a postcard from this weird prairie planet
Trying to find a clever line about being alien to yr talent
Or adrift in space without our hangs
Or something
